How much does the average Wedding Videographer cost

In short…it depends.

There are Wedding Videographers out there to suit all budgets. You might be able to hire a videographer to capture your day for as little as £500, but then, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Good Wedding Videographers aren’t cheap, but you should think of it as an investment in memories.

The most important thing for you is to decide how much you want to spend. If you’ve already budgeted to hire a Wedding Videographer, then you’ll know how much you have to spend, whether it’s £500 or £5000.

EXPENSES

Before you start wondering why Wedding Videographers (good Wedding Videographers) cost so much, it’s a good idea to consider the investments that go into being a Wedding Videographer.

For example, here are just a few of the expenses the average Wedding Videographer has in order just to do our job.

  • Cameras - £3000-£4000 (I have 3 of them)

  • Lenses - £400-£2000 each (we need a variety of lenses for a multitude of situations)

  • Tripods & Monopods - £100-300

  • Drones - £500-£1000

  • Editing Software - £50pcm

  • Music Subscription - £80pcm

  • Business Insurance

  • Public Liability Insurance

  • Car

  • Travel Expenses

  • Accomodation

Time

Then there’s the time it takes to film and then edit. Expect for your Wedding Videographer to be with you for up to 10 hours on the day, from morning prep right the way through to your first dance & beyond.

The edit is where the real hours are put in. Any decent Wedding Videographer will not just make a film, but create a story. Before your wedding I get to know you so that I can fully understand your story and put that to film, using what I capture on the day to construct a narrative. Your film needs not only to document the day, but to show the journey you’ve been on to get to this point.

Editing time can vary, but on average a wedding film can take anywhere from 30 to 60 hours! All in all, that’s a lot of work.

So how much?

Going back to the beginning, it depends on how much you’re willing to assign to capturing the memories of your special day. The price of Wedding Videographers depends largely upon the videographer’s experience, equipment and the overall quality of their films.

But shop around and explore your options. Every Wedding Videographer has a slightly different style, approach and personality. I have a very natural approach to filming, preferring to capture moments exactly as they happen, with genuine emotions and reactions. My filming style is very dependant on the kind of film I think you’d like. And my personality…well, let’s just say I’m not going to be shouting and in your face all day.

I charge a base rate of £1399 for full day coverage, with a few optional add-ons.

There are cheaper videographers out there, and there are more expensive ones. It’s about weighing up your options and choosing one that you feel if right for you, and will capture and re-tell your story in the way that you want.
